Dear Members of the IGDA Education SIG,

We are all so glad to see so much discussion on the list-serv
recently. We don't wish to disrupt the great conversation, so we will
keep this as brief as possible.

To begin, we would like to thank you for electing us as the Steering
Committee for the Education SIG. We are honored to have your votes and
your confidence placed in us. We will be doing all that we can to
build on the successes that our outgoing chairperson, Susan Gold, was
able to accomplish. Susan, thank you for all your work in fostering
the community found in this group. Any success that we experience will
be because we have a solid base from which to build to greater
heights.

Regarding our period of 'radio silence':
Thank you for the patience and understanding that you have shown us.
Since this is the first time the SIG has had a steering committee it
has taken us some time to get ourselves organized, establish internal
communication procedures and resolve some technical issues. While
there are still a couple of outstanding details to work out, we are
ready to move forward in 'open-beta', if you will.

Over the next few weeks we will be posting information about three
broad areas of activities:
1) those that the SIG is committed to carry forward from previous years
2) new initiatives that the SIG has been asked to consider by the IGDA, and
3) potential initiatives that were in each of our candidate statements.

We will be asking for you to help us to understand how these proposals
align with your priorities via surveys and discussion. We also want
to learn which of these projects you wish to contribute your time and
expertise to making a reality. And finally, if there are needs that
are unmet we encourage you to share your ideas so we can help connect
people with common interests and goals to solve specific problems that
will be of benefit to all of our members.

We look forward to working with all of you to bring about the future
of game education.

Sincerely,

Bill Crosbie, Suzanne Freyjadis, Chris Swain
