Forwarding this vacancy at my university, the vacancy is in Intelligent
Systems but as can be seen from the advert we are keen to appoint someone
with an interest in games. The university currently runs two different
undergraduate games degrees in game development and technology.

The School of Computing is one of the leading players in Computing and IT
in Scotland, with extensive expertise in research and development and
collaborative working relationships with multinational companies. The
School offers a diverse range of career-focused undergraduate and
postgraduate courses, which benefit from the School’s strong industrial
links.

In the last Research Assessment Exercise, the School of Computing achieved
international standing profiles in two units of assessment (Computing and
Information and Library studies). The school research and knowledge
exchange presence is growing in both volume and quality in the areas of
Audio-visual Communications and Networks, Information and Communication
Technologies in Education (including Games Technology), Interactive
Creative Technologies and Databases and Knowledge Management.

As a Lecturer in Intelligent Systems, you must have a strong track of
research in this field as evidenced by international calibre
publications. Demonstrable
programming knowledge and the ability to develop research activities
aligning with one or more of the School’s research groups is also vital to
this role.

Ideally, you will possess relevant industrial experience and a successful
track record of obtaining external funding, as well as previous teaching
and learning experience.

Ability to lecture in the areas of Computer Games or general Computing is
also desirable, as is familiarity with one or more of with one or more of
artificial intelligence, machine learning, evolutionary computing and
intelligent agents

A higher degree (normally a PhD) in a Computing, Electrical Engineering or
other cognate discipline is essential, along with evidence of vision, drive
and determination to succeed.

A confident and outgoing attitude that will facilitate the development of
networks both internally and externally is necessary, as well as the
ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
