[CIS PIDD] [cis-pidd] [CIS-PIDD] Severe Kerion Question

Hi - I have seen scalp infections like this (and worse) while working in a pediatric clinic on a native American reservation. The physician there told me that it is not uncommon in the kids he sees who come to medical attention late. Did this develop while on oral therapy for tinea capitis or was this the first time she came to medical attention?

Best,
Megan

Posted on behalf of Dr. Cunningham-Rundles

I saw this 6 year old the other day, sent from a very experienced
dermatologist, who notes that this degree of a kerion is quite unusual for
him and asked if an immune defect was likely.

She has no family hx, no other issues, otherwise normal PE, non-related
arents. No sibs. Developed ringworm last summer and it has led to this.

Sorry the picture looks pretty bad.
