Joe,

I don't think it should be an issue. Baby should have plenty of CMV specific antibody. Also, transmission is more efficient by saliva. So if you are keeping her from breastfeeding baby need to keep her from kissing baby too!

Subject: [cis-pidd] "Safe" T-cell numbers for breast feeding?

Colleagues:

Newborn screening for SCID is identifying babies with T-cells in the 300-500/mcL range. This has raised the question: what number would be "safe" to allow breast feeding by a CMV seropositive mom?

I have been asked this question about a 2 month old baby with CHARGE syndrome, a CD3+ count of 500 and CD4+ count of 335, and positive response to PHA. The baby is clinically very stable except for tachypnea due to choanal atresia.
