Pardon the crosspost, but an EAS notice of proposed rulemaking was published in the Federal Register this morning.

The EAS notice of proposed rulemaking presents several proposal for modifying the EAS text associated with national EAS messages, including pre-stored templates for NPT messages.

The NPRM also proposes requiring triggered CAP polling (automatically seeking out a CAP message if EAS is retrieved first).

The notice of inquiry goes farther in inquiring how the EAS system could be improved to include more text support. A good background article on this was published recently in RadioWorld: https://www.radioworld.com/news-and-business/headlines/fcc-raises-broader-questions-about-eas

NPRM Comments due by 11 March 2022, and reply comments due by 28 March.

NOI comments due by 11 April 2022, with NOI reply comments by 10 May.
