1. K3672BCD price: $42,683 FOB NY Delivery: 60-70 days ARO

2. The klystron has external cavities and comes on a trolley.

3. It is operating at 25kV beam voltage

4. Never heard of anyone getting electrocuted on it so far. I don't intend to be the first :-)

5. Filament voltage is at 8 volts. Both tubes have been in operation for 5 years straight. it is encouraging to know it is possible for them to last another 4 years(?). Biggest problem are in maintaining from water/steam leaks and the cost of maintenance. Rubber gaskets for the sight glass for example costs $80 each and I have to replace them everytime the transmitter is turned off or leaks eat my lunch. The rubber steam boots (there are two) are $800 each and we replace them every 1.5 years just to make sure leaks won't happen and kill the magnets or the tube itself.

6. It is possible that other NTSC countries will be interested to make use of legacy equipment but I seriously doubt klystrons will still be desirable. You'll be surprised that even in developing countries, most rigs are solid state already. The major reason to this is that they have to pay stiff customs duties and insurance to import parts and it is not worth getting klystrons in.

We are using two E2V K3672BCD klystrons for our Harris TV60UX
transmitter. These may or may not last until 2009.

Anyone with a used klystron from a decommissioned TV60UX?

Got your filament at minimum? Used to typically get 80k hours or more on
mine.

There was a time in my life when I maintained a couple of UHF klystron rigs...

how much are the tubes these days?

Do they still come in the roll around cart/chassis.

Do they still run on 25 - 30 kV?

Are they still associated with a high "incompetent engineer" death rate?

What was the voltage used in the electric chair? 2200 v @ 60 Hz?

You mentioned 80 k hrs on the tube possible. 24 hrs x 365 days = 8760 hrs
per year. 80,000/8760 = 9.13 years...

Oh well... I guess that is why I am still alive, I fortunately never had to
change one. just must have been lucky. I am remembering a lot of problems
with the transmitters and power system, (mostly related to dirt accumulated on
power system components and subsequent acrovers.) but never lost a klystron.

Which is why I am asking what they now cost... new and rebuilt, and what is
the factory warranty for each item.

Sure looks like after Feb 2009 there is going to be a lot of rigs declared
surplus and /or obsolete. Is there any plan to try and sell this vast amount of
equipment (now operating NTSC on the USA old NTSCband plan) to any other
entity that can possibly implement them?

just wondering...
