Been there done that many times. Some "engineers" are idiots and some can't 
solder, some can't figure out not to use gas pliers for crimp connectors, and 
some think a series of adapters is better than getting the right connector for 
the cable some think pin 2 on audio is ground (shield) and don't bother with 
male/female convention (male = source, female = destination). You have my 
sympathy. I've made a good living correcting and cleaning up plant wiring.
