What Rolin says works. Our SBE chapter (76) in Eugene invited our local
law enforcement folks and the companies that would possibly buy copper
to one of our meetings and had a very good exchange of information. As a
result, they set up a similar situation of digital pixs and notification
to law enforcement etc when anyone tries to sell them copper. Copper
theft in our area has greatly been reduced and when it does happen, the
perpetrators are usually nailed.

Here in our place, we have contacted all the salvage companies we can think of who will buy scrap copper and metals for that matter. The local police is notified whenever there is someone selling copper (DIGITAL PICTURES ARE TAKEN). These salvage companies also know how a coaxial cable looks lke so they know that only telecoms/broadcast entities should sell them.
