[SBE] Renewal of membership on line

As a small business man, PAY PAL rocks. PAY PAL had problems nor long ago
with law suits over fraudulent refunds, Etc. In fact I got caught up with
one. This can still happen, if you are not careful. PAY PAL has addressed
this scam and it is now very hard for the end user to request a refund under
fraudulent conditions.

With Pay Pal I can send out an invoice for payment even if the end user is
not a PAY PAL client. And the client can still use just about any credit
card available. Small business and the Internet makes life for "Gypsy"
engineers like me a little easier. All for a fee but like Larry said, it is
small compared to the benefits.

There are some banking hurdles to overcome for what seems like such a
simple on-line payment task. We are a listener-supported station and
discovered that the hard way. The more traditional methods we used
for a number of years were a real pain. So, I understand the
difficulties with which they struggle for this issue.

Sometimes the method used can make a lot of difference. Finding new,
untraditional tools that do a better job is a broadcast engineer's
staple. But, I cannot claim finding our solution to that problem.

Last fall we changed to a new local one-man-show web programming
service to help spruce up our web site. He put us onto a new service
provided by Pay-pal that allows user-entered purchases and
credit-card payments on-line that is very user friendly for the bank,
web host and end-user. It sends an e-mail of the transactions (orders
placed) and the proceeds are automatically transferred into the
web-site owner's bank account specified for such deposits. I was
initially very skeptical of it but once it was in place became as
sold on the decision to use it as if it were my own idea. So far, we
only use it for listener-supported donations. But it allows on-line
shopping from your own web pages (I do *not* mean using e-bay) and
the low fees cannot be beat. From what I am told, Pay-pal is
completely transparent to the web-user's on-line experience.
