[SBE] Net Guardian SNMP Monitoring

Ah, It seems that I'm mixing apples and oranges. The Net Guardian unit has
several data ports (DB9) to connect to. I can't use these ports for SNMP,
but I *can* use them as TCP/UDP reach through ports.

There isn't a cat-5 connection available on the UPS I was attempting to test
with. I must have an older model. The strike actually burned the UPS circuit
board. I'll put it on the bench one day and fix it...

I just got off of the phone with a friend that works for cisco and he
explained how this Net Gaurdian box works.  I was assuming that the Net
Gaurdian could control other SNMP devices. My friend says the Net Gaurdian
box is meant to talk to other Net Gaurdian units or relay contacts etc., but
not to communicate back and forth with other SNMP devices. The Net Gaurdian
unit just converts the analog/relay/discrete contact info into an MIB file
which then sends that information to the Net Gaurdian software to convert to
SNMP, or something along those lines. He said that if I wanted to monitor
multiple SNMP devices in addition to monitoring the Net Gaurdian I should
use Network Observer.

Does this sound like the correct direction to move in?
