INCREASE IN DTV EDUCATIONAL
ANNOUNCEMENTS NOVEMBER 1ST
Beginning November 1st, public broadcasters that have
chosen DTV Consumer Education Option Three (the APTS
plan) must air a minimum of 180 seconds per day of
closedcaptioned
DTV transition-education PSAs, in variable timeslots,
including at least 22.5 minutes per month between 6:00 p.m.
and midnight. This requirement applies to each station's analog
channel through shutoff and primary digital stream through
March 31, 2009 for any station that then serves its full
authorized service area. Any licensee that has requested or
been granted an extension to serve less than its full authorized
service area after March 31, 2009 must continue to broadcast
the PSAs until its request for extension has been withdrawn or
denied or until a granted extension has expired.
In addition, any station that has not aired at least one 30-
minute informational program on both its analog channel and
primary digital stream between 8:00 a.m. and 11:35 p.m. must
do so by February 17, 2009.
