There is a CE job in my market that has been open for 10 months as of
10/31. There is one reason it has not been filled. Richard Hardy

This has been an interesting thread -

The bottom line is that is all based on supply and demand.
If the station finds someone for the rate they are willing to pay and
the QOS is acceptable - It's a done deal. If, however, they find that
there are no takers, they know what must be done.

No one is going to willing pay more for something than they feel they
must. This situation is no exception.

I do recall a couple of months ago a GM called me wanting to know if
I knew of anyone that was looking for work in his area (apparently
his Chief was talking retirement) I asked about the salary, when he
gave me the number I responded that I did not feel that he would get
any takers. As the conversation evolved he agreed that the number
was, in light of what someone with similar talents could make - out
of broadcasting. I wished him luck. There are times that there are
jobs open and no takers leading frustrated managers to wonder what's
wrong.
