I say, turn off DTV. Analog forever, if for no other reasons than was stated
by Carl Sundberg. All this digital stuff is quirky, mostly software no one can
fix, the public doesn't car is Lucy is in HD or not. Run the DTV channels
for the itenerant viewer, some sports, per inquiry half hour commercials and all
the other junk programming used to fill a 24 hr/day schedule. We'll cut back
analog to 3 PM to 11:30 PM so we can exercise the tube filament more and keep
burning all those KWH we have all loved to pay. You can do maintenance in the
morning instead of midnight Sunday night. We know DTV doesn't get as far as
analog, it barely replicates the A contour and needs a lot more power to get
into buildings or serve those fringe area viewers that likely have long ago gone
to satellite or cable. Forget about mobile or portable receivers for DTV, the
new mobile systems with free TV to the cell phone will eliminate any need for
that. If your old analog rig is so old and battered that it can't hold out,
buy a new one and help the economoy with a half mil purchase. And stop paying
outrageous fees for programs, get out the vault dust and play the public domain
movies. Shucks, lets bring back tube equipment, we can tell if its cold its
dead. I'll toss in a pocket protector so the 6 tweekers don't poke a hole in
your T-shirt. Meanwhile I'll vote to keep the full power stations on as long as
any analog station is on. I've always said analog won't go away until 2012,
and with the LPTV's not having to turn off, why should we? And lets get the
Government bailout to cover our DTV costs to date since the LPTV's are said to be
paid to move to digital because they are so poor and incapable of making any
profit to pay their own wayand can't even afford a real full time engineer to
keep it running. I say, let the 17th of February come and go, keep the analog
transmitters on until the Feds come and shoot up your Ruby Ridge transmitter
compound. Defiance! Who are these knuckle head washington bureacrats to tell
us how to run TV! License? We don't need no stinking license ... just a test
pattern Jolly Roger!

tongue in cheek
Henry
