[SBE] T-Mobile

John--have you told your T-Mobile story to your Congressional and Senate
representatives? They may not be able to get your money back but they might
be able to make sure that those being called up for duty in Afghanistan
don't get hooked into the same situation you experienced. Thank you for your
service.

I had an expensive "gotcha" with T-Mobile. When I got called to active duty
Army for Operation Enduring/Iraqi Freedom, T-Mobile was the only national
carrier with service in the Middle East. A bunch of folks in my unit signed
up for service before we deployed. The price for Kuwait was $1.49/min. I
was told that overseas calls, because of their country specific pricing, did
not count towards my monthly minute plan. So, I went for the monthly base
plan of 30'/$19.99.

Gotcha! After 30', the Kuwaiti call rate goes up to $3.49/min! My wife was
under a bit of stress (as you can imagine), so she just paid the bills
without a full review of the costs. We never got a friendly "We've reviewed
your calling habits and determined that you could save money if you changed
your monthly plan, etc." letter, just HUGE bills.

My only consolation: Some folks from other states never got any overseas
charges. When they got their T-Mobile bills, they only had the base monthly
charge, no overseas per-minute charge. They called customer service and
were told that there was no usage on their phone. So they loaned their
phones to anyone and everyone who wanted to call home, especially the Jr.
enlisted people.

I hope that is still going on, because I will NEVER forgive T-Mobile for
screwing over military members whose lives are in danger and whose families
are in turmoil. T-Mobile surely benefited from the work we did over there.

So there's my $1.49. (or $2.98, depending on how fast you read)

Good Luck,

John Tyler, CBRE
