[SBE] 700 MHz wireless question

Hey Jer,

I bet you five bucks that the current FCC does not have the political
will to fine a church $10,000 for the illegal use of a wireless
microphone. Especially if they're guilty.

I was just talking via email to our mutual friend Jay about this.
Last time I attended the Dayton Hamfest, there were probably a hundred
or more 700 Mhz wireless microphones for sale, most of them Lectros
with some Shure and Sennheisers. They will all end up in churches,
and Public Safety folks, being elected officials themselves, will not
file on a church. At the outside, they'll have someone inside the
church quietly change the frequencies. Of course, if the churches can
hear the Public Safety traffic, they'll just change the frequencies
themselves and then nobody will ever be the wiser.

This FCC does politics, not engineering. Chris Imlay had an article
in the SBE newsletter that said something to the effect that the FCC
values engineers and lawyers somewhat differently...and we've arrived
at the natural result of that.
