If one such as myself were to have purchased the CD version - Would we have
access to the new online version as well? Is this an addition cost? Also,
are the materials different between the two of them?

The new version of SBE's CertPreview is expected to be available right after
NAB.

CertPreview is intended to give individuals a preview on what an SBE
Certification exam is like. Each Certification level and Specialist exam
has it's own CertPreview edition.

We are in the final stages of reviewing the software for general release.

Senate Bill S.2881 Clears Senate Committee

Indianapolis - Mar 25, 2010 - The Senate bill introduced by Senator Olympia
Snowe (R-ME) titled "The FCC Commissioners' Technical Resource Enhancement
Act" has cleared the Senate Committee on Science, Commerce and
Transportation. Only one change was made to the bill to include provisions
of Senate bill S.3042, a bill also introduced by Sen. Snowe. S.3042 provides
for a study by the National Academy of Sciences on the technical policy
decisions and technical personnel at the Federal Communications Commission.
The bill now moves back to the Senate.

The bill's basic purpose is to provide greater technical resources to FCC
Commissioners. A companion resolution was introduced in the House of
Representatives by Jerry McNerney (D-CA). McNerney's resolution, R.4809, was
the result of the Society of Broadcast Engineers visiting offices of House
members in March to generate support of the issue.

Barry Thomas, CPBE CBNT, chairman of the SBE Government Relations Committee,
said, "This legislation advances one of the Society's most long-standing and
important goals, and will help ensure that broadcasting technical regulation
is based on sound technical reasoning."

SBE President Vinny Lopez, CEV, added, "We expect this bill to continue on
its fast track through Congress. The SBE encourages all broadcasters -- not
just SBE members -- to contact their Senators or Representatives and urge
support for this important legislation."

The Society of Broadcast Engineers is the professional organization of
television and radio engineers and those in related fields. SBE has more
than 5,500 members in 115 chapters across the United States and in Hong
Kong. SBE members can also be found in more than 20 other countries. Most
chapters meet monthly and offer educational programs and an opportunity to
network with other engineers. SBE offers the largest and most recognized
certification program for broadcast engineers, operators and technicians,
with more than 5,000 certifications currently active. The SBE also offers a
growing number of on-line and traditional educational courses and seminars
for the technical broadcasting community.
