If you are looking to build a simple device, consider a 4 quadrant
multiplier. Attached is one from Texas Instrument. There are others.
Check out Motorola MC1496 or MC1596



Simply connect one source to the X input, the other to the Y input and the
control voltage to the Z input.

crossfade between them when triggered from a contact closure.

Any suggestions?
