Potquid Nam Truffglog

Potquid Nam Truffglog
<http://www.voxnovus.com/NM421/issue/postcard/13-01-19-Potquid_Nam_Truffglog
.jpg>

According to the Origin Mythology of the World Xylophone League, millennia
ago, the gods discovered the rumba, but didn't know what to do with it since
they had no concept of music. So they created ninety-four humans - the Tribe
of Meptang - who were proficient in the art of "accompaniment." The better
the human complemented the gods' sometimes fantastic movements, the more
lavish the gift bestowed upon the lucky accompanist. It didn't take long for
tribal members to learn that percussion instruments worked best -
specifically, potquid nam truffglog, or "good-sounding banged-on hollow tree
trunk," later shortened to xylophone. One day, the gods simply vanished. One
theory suggests that during a particularly vigorous dance routine that
involved a cow, they accidently contorted their bodies into non-orientable
Mobius strips that were invisible in Earth's electromagnetic spectrum. Well,
the Meptangs had grown immensely fond of their baksheesh, so they tried to
lure back the gods by building ever larger xylophones. And although the gods
never rematerialized, the Tribe of Meptang continued to fashion giant wooden
thwacking instruments, which today are prized by percussionists the world
over.
