Let's TALK about TOM
Thomas Piercy <http://www.thomaspiercy.com/>is a clarinetist. He is also
much much more! Besides also performing the hichiriki, Thomas is Executive
and Artistic Director Random Access Music, founder for Tokyo to NY, and
frequent collaborator with Contemporary Recordings, Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame
and Composer's Voice. A true champion of new music, he has presented and
premierd the works of many living composers empowering the new music
community.
Vox Novus first met Tom over a decade ago on the previous iteration of
Composer's Voice with a special Japanese themed concert. Tom was part of a
duet with Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame. That was the beginning of a long
standing relationship of working together in many different projects. Hang
on tight! Much more is coming.
This week there is a lot of Tom to speak about! 15 with Tom and Dance! And
a great lineup for 2 RAM (Random Access Music) concerts. Make sure to
attend concerts if in town, watch online, spread the word of all this good
music, or just give a shout out to Tom that you appreciate his work. We are
all in it together!
Oh! and just a little teaser... keep on the lookout here... there is so
much more coming!

SRU’s annual 60x60x60 dance concert returns Sept. 2660x60x60 will be held
Sept. 26 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., Sept. 26, at Stoner West
Slippery Rock University’s Dance Department’s annual 60x60x60 concert is 7
p.m. and 9 p.m., Sept. 26, at Stoner West.
Slippery Rock University's Dance Department is hosting two presentations of
its annual 60x60x60 concert, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., Sept. 26, at the Dance
Studio Theater in Stoner West. In one hour, more than 100 musicians,
painters, dancers, choreographers and filmmakers from SRU will showcase
their talent through 60 dance segments in 60-second intervals.
According to Andrew Hasenpflug, a SRU dance musician and instructor, the
origin of the 60x60x60 comes from a musical contest created by Vox Novus of
New York City. Similarly, musical artists would perform 60-second songs
from across the world. The winners of the contest would be arranged into a
60-minute playlist called mixes.
"This event is not limited by genre, so choreographers are free to
interpret their sections as they choose and we expect to see many styles
and artistic voices represented," Hasenpflug said. "This is a great event
if you like short scenes, and that's definitely in line with the attention
span of today."
Tickets for the 60x60x60 performances are $5 and can be purchased online at
sru.edu/tickets.
