improvisations at Futura Studios.

electronics, composed by Robert Anton Strobel and performed by multi-wind
specialist Joe LaRocca. Commissioned for LaRocca, this piece showcases his

experimental sounds.
LaRocca's dynamic career spans theater, orchestral performance, and solo
work, earning accolades like a St. Louis Theater Circle Award and multiple
Elliot Norton Award nominations. Experience the dynamic artistry of Joe
LaRocca, a multi-wind specialist whose versatility spans genres and thrills
audiences across the country. With a primary focus on flute, saxophone,
clarinet, and double reeds, Joe’s expertise extends to ethnic and
historical winds, bringing both traditional and experimental works to life.
Recognized with a St. Louis Theater Circle Award and multiple Elliot Norton
Award nominations, Joe has performed with prestigious theaters and in
acclaimed productions like The Lehman Trilogy, The Band's Visit, and Jesus
Christ Superstar 50th Anniversary National Tour. Beyond the stage, Joe is a
respected orchestral musician and educator, dividing his time between
Gloucester and Cambridge, MA.
Robert Anton Strobel is a Colorado-based composer known for crafting
emotionally resonant works that explore themes of history and distant
places. With over 20 commissions from esteemed ensembles like the
Ladyslipper Ensemble and the Barlow Endowment, his music has earned
recognition from organizations such as the Brush Creek Foundation for the
Arts and The American Prize in Orchestral Music. Strobel's compositions
have been published internationally and featured on radio broadcasts. A
dedicated researcher and presenter, he has shared his insights at the Aspen
Composer’s Conference and holds a doctorate in composition.
Recorded at Futura Studios, this performance includes LaRocca's original
improvisations, blending Strobel's evocative soundscape with a unique,
personal touch. Join us on Composer's Voice to experience this compelling
collaboration.
Composer's Voice showcases full contemporary works from living composers by
musicians who champion new music.
Episodes of Composer's Voice air its half-hour show every 2 weeks on
