Dear Friends and Colleagues
I have a 24yo with CVID who has done well on Ab replacement (no unusual infections etc..)- normal numbers of T cells who is in Veterinary School. She is required to receive the rabies vaccine and show anti-rabies Ab post-vaccination. Not surprisingly, she had no response to the vaccine. It is my understanding that the rabies immunoglobulin provides only temporary protection in the event of a bite until the rabies vaccine elicits an antibody response. As a veterinarian, she will be at some increased risk for rabies, depending on exactly what she decides to do. Has anyone else had a similar situation (maybe a veterinarian subsequently diagnosed with CVID)? Any advice on how to manage this difficult and unusual situation would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jack Routes
