[SBE] Going Green, Saves Green

No matter what your reasons for "going green", or "staying the course in
your own lives", going green in business just makes "cents". You can
question "the underlying meaning" and the "communist" aspects of being
responsible stewards of the planet, but what about saving money?

I'm the video engineer for the City of Louisville, and we are going green to
save money. Just by simply replacing standard light bulbs with fluorescents
we are expecting to save over $100,000 in bulbs and the labor to replace
them over the next couple of years. For businesses today "green" just makes
sense to save money. And heck, if it helps the planet in the process even
better.
LEDs on towers save money, low power transmitters save money. They also
reduce our dependence on energy costs that keep going up. I remember
reading an article awhile back that a radio station was experimenting with
solar panels at their transmitter that would provide almost 50% of the
electricity for the building. Why? To save money.

Personally, my mother always told me that being a responsible citizen of our
planet was a part of my "moral" duty (it's in the Bible somewhere), but now
that money is involved I'm really motivated. And, if we look to others
(especially at hypocrites) to get our motivation we're just lemmings, eager
to follow, right or wrong.

So go save the planet and some money at the same time!!!!

Henry, I agree and your perfectly right to raise that point. When Chriss
asks what we are doing at our stations to "go green" we have the
responsibility to question the whole underlying argument about the necessity

to "go green" in the first place. When worthless dweebs like Sean Penn and
Madonna tell us that "we" have to "go green", and then the hop in their
private jets and burn up 10,000 gallons of jet fuel just to go to a party
with some other dweebs, we have to take issue with their position. The "do
as I say, not as I do" Hollywood hypocrisy is neck deep as you can see in
this article:

"Green" is the new euphemism for Communism and "An Inconvenient Truth" is
the Reefer Madness of the 21st Century.
