[SBE] SBE RF Safety Course

Brian,

The SBE RF Safety Course actually IS available to individuals. Because of
cost factors and our instructors preferences to keep the classes at a
manageable size, we are limited to the number of log-in ports we use for the
course; only nine. Even though you have seen many chapters or companies host
a site for the course in the past, we have had a good number of individuals
take the course participating from their own home or office computer (and
telephone for the audio). The hard part is getting registered for one of
those nine ports before they are all spoken for.

There is a price break for having four or more take the course from one
site. Brian, you could host a site if you want and have others from your
station or the Austin area join you - or you can take it by yourself.

Our next course will be in September. The exact date and time will be
established within the next few weeks. We already have a waiting list for
that course, though there are still, as of this date, three ports available.
If you're interested, please send a note to Debbie Hennessey
<mailto:dhennessey at sbe.org> , here at the SBE office, that you would like to
be added to the waiting list for the September course. Once the date is set,
you will be contacted to confirm your participation and get you registered.
There is no obligation on your part to be added to the waiting list.

Thanks,

John Poray <mailto:y at sbe.org>

The RF Safety Seminar is a good start. However, it is only available as a
group event through local chapters. I'd like to take the course, but every
time I see an announcement, it is a group event only which hasn't been
offered locally (and yes, I have asked the local chapter to sponsor a
seminar).

If SBE is to offer on line courses, they need to be made available to
individuals and not as group only events. On demand is not necessary; a
simulcast similar to the National Meeting held last year is acceptable.
Some members, as already pointed out, don't have local chapters near them.
In other cases, there appears to be no interest in sponsoring a group event.
